About IGNITE — IGNITE is the student union representing over 30,000 full-time students across Humber College and the University of Guelph-Humber. The organization acts as the collective student voice, delivering services, advocacy, and programming that support student life and engagement.

The Project — A selection of social-first video projects developed to inform, engage, and connect with the student community.

This includes three Instagram Reels with distinct objectives: one focused on encouraging participation in the mayoral by-election, another promoted the role of the Online Engagement Editor, and the third shared updates from Student Advocates. Each project balances informational messaging with an engaging, platform-native approach designed to increase reach and accessibility.

My Role — As Online Engagement Editor, I led the creation and execution of social content across Instagram, with a focus on building engagement and strengthening community connection.

I was responsible for the end-to-end development of content, including concepting, planning, directing, filming, editing, and publishing. I also wrote copy for posts and Stories, ensuring clarity and consistency across both educational and promotional messaging.

In addition, I managed daily community engagement, responding to comments and direct messages to foster a more connected and responsive brand presence.

Results

• Contributed to a 175% increase in overall Instagram engagement over 9 months through consistent, platform-relevant content

• Supported a 50% growth in followers by developing clear, engaging copy and content strategies

• Created and managed content for a 16K+ audience, strengthening visibility and reach

• Built stronger community engagement through daily interaction, improving responsiveness and audience connection
